According to reports, Google Inc has acquired streaming music service Songza. The Internet search giant’s latest move in securing a major role in the rapidly growing online music business, Google revealed they would explore ways to incorporate aspects of Songza into its existing streaming music service. Songza, which creates “expert-curated” music playlists based on users’ activities and tastes, will remain unchanged for existing users for now. Last year, Google launched a $9.99-per-month Play All Access subscription music service and recently said its YouTube video website was preparing to launch a paid streaming service. Although Google has yet to reveal any financials, the New York Post said unnamed sources hinted that Google had offered to buy the company for $15 million last month. Google‘s deal with Songza comes one month after Apple Inc acquired Beats for $3 billion. Apple’s purchase of Beats was viewed as an effort to jump-start the company’s position in the fastest-growing segment of the music market. Thoughts?
