If you’re unfamiliar, Jack Dorsey is an American programmer and businessman widely known as a co-founder of Twitter, and as the founder and CEO of Square, a mobile payments company. The recipient of The Wall Street Journal’s ‘Innovator of the Year Award’ for technology, Dorsey helped bring Twitter to life in 2006 and was just recently named the company’s permanent CEO. Twitter help create the ‘microblogging’ movement, and has since become one of the most powerful social media platforms on the web. The company’s board is hoping Dorsey’s return will have the same winning effect on Twitter as the return of Steve Jobs did for a once floundering Apple. With a net-worth of $2.3 billion, Dorsey’s return at the reins of Twitter comes as it struggles to expand its user base above 300 million people. Twitter is counting on an older, more experienced Dorsey to help with decisions from hiring and marketing to adding new features that will ramp use of the service. Dorsey tweeted earlier today, ‘Our work forward is to make Twitter easy to understand by anyone in the world, and give more utility to the people who love to use it daily!’
