Twitter billboard TWITTER + BILLBOARD TEAM UP TO CREATE REAL TIME MUSIC CHART

Big news! Twitter has partnered with Billboard to create charts to track real-time conversations about music. Similar to what Twitter is currently doing with Nielsen to rank TV shows, Billboard has signed a Twitter Amplify partnership which will  help distribute Billboard’s chart beyond Billboard.com and include custom in-Tweet charts and in-Tweet video round ups of the week in music on Twitter. The Billboard Twitter Real-Time Charts will rank tracks and artists based on the Twitter traffic they generate. Twitter recently announced it will shut down its Twitter #Music app, which originally launched in April 2013. The music service failed to gain mainstream notoriety in a market full of rival music apps, although music is the most-discussed topic on Twitter. According to Bob Moczydlowsky, Twitter’s music head, the charts are set “to create the new industry standard for tracking and surfacing the conversation around music as it happens.” You can follow the @Billboard and @TwitterMusic accounts to get all the latest data from the charts. Check back for updates, and as always, let us know what you think in the comment section!
