Earlier this week, one of the largest marijuana companies in the US, American Green, Inc., announced it purchased California desert town Nipton in hopes of turning it into ‘the country’s first energy-independent, cannabis-friendly hospitality destination.’ Located on the edge of the Mojave Desert, Nipton spreads out over 120 acres and includes a Old West-style hotel, a handful of houses, an RV park and a coffee shop. Purchased for $5 million USD, American Green plans on spending another $2.5 million USD to renovate Nipton, and will focus on using renewable energy. American Green’s president and CEO David Gwyther said in a statement:
“We are excited to lead the charge for a true Green Rush. The cannabis revolution that’s going on here in the U.S. has the power to completely revitalize communities in the same way gold did during the 19th century.”
